Randolph Parry Architects, P.C. has been commissioned by the Westfield Friends School to design an addition to their existing facility. The project will involve the construction of a new 5,000 square foot auditorium/multi-purpose addition that will serve to meet the needs of the physical education department. The ceiling will be of a sufficient height to allow playing basketball indoors and storage will be provided for the gymnastic program. The new wing will also give more room for seating at the many theatrical productions performed by the students throughout the school year. The stage will be designed to give maximum viewing satisfaction and the lights and sound systems will be designed to enhance the performances. The addition will be connected to the existing 3rd grade wing by an enclosed breezeway that will be used to prepare the students prior to performances. The building is to be constructed on a full basement therefore providing much needed storage for the school and the Meeting House.
The existing auditorium will be renovated to provide larger classroom space for the 5th and 6th grades as well as a larger Nurse’s Office and additional special instruction rooms. This portion of the existing building will be air conditioned during the renovation. The balance of the existing school will be air conditioned in a later phase.
