The Value of an Architect
In Jack Parry's 30 years of experience as an architect, he's learned that many people don't understand the true benefits of working with an architect; the insight and expertise they bring is invaluable in designing a new home. We place ourselves in a building and consider how people will actually live in a space; we consider intent and convenience of the spaces, the flow as people move through the spaces, the orientation in terms of sunlight, the placement of windows and doors, and how rooms will be furnished. Our designers will help you from the first home design inception to moving in!
Description of Our Scope of Services:
PHASE I
SITE ANALYSIS:
Prior to starting any design work during a custom home project, we will begin with a review of the property to help us understand the characteristics and possible constraints. This will help us grasp how to best orient your home and take advantage of sunlight and views.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN:
We work closely with our clients to develop a preliminary design concept that reflects the needs, wish list, and budgetary aspects of the project. Communication between the designers and client is paramount as we prepare preliminary floor plans and elevations, and multiple design iterations may be part of the process to ensure we develop a plan that meets the design intent.
PHASE II
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:
Upon approval of the design prepared and presented in phase I, we will continue to develop the design and prepare detailed plans and elevations, along with sections and a computer model that can be used for early budget pricing.
We use 3-D models as part of our services to help clients understand every aspect of their home design before construction even begins. Meetings between the client and architects to discuss plan details mitigates any possible problems during construction later on in the process.
As an additional service, our designers can create a video walk-through of the new home to allow clients to actually "experience" their dream home before the onset of construction.
Our goal is to keep our clients as informed as possible dure PHASE II, before any shovels hit the ground.
PHASE III
CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS:
Upon approval of the revised design in phase II, we will prepare detailed construction plans and documentation suitable for permits. Depending on our contract with the client, structural and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) plans may accompany architectural plans.
Architectural plans may include the following:
- Foundation Plan illustrating footings and foundations for new construction
- Floor plan and Roof plan
- Four elevations illustrating all design changes
- Wall sections illustrating code and permit requirements
- Appropriate building sections
- Notes, square footage, and volume calculations for permits
- ResCheck for permit
PHASE IV
CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION:
This phase may include site visits and shop drawing reviews as the design team continues their ongoing client support to ensure the proper completion of the project. We will be working alongside our clients, perfecting every detail, until the day they move into their new dream home.

We worked with an unbelievable team at JRP Architects for our residential renovation.
